10 Perfect Rock Songs That Were Written By Someone Else

7. Rockin Chair - Oasis

In the early days of Oasis, there was no arguing about Noel Gallagher being in charge of writing the songs. For the majority of the '90s, almost every song that Oasis came out with had to have Noel's stamp of approval before making it on the record, almost using his brother Liam as the snide rocker who could sell the songs properly. If we're talking about Noel Gallagher in the '90s, we also have to talk about his vicious streak with copying other people's work.

There have been many different lawsuits that have come Gallagher's way from the likes of Stevie Wonder and Neil Innis, but even some of the deep cuts had other artists' fingerprints all over them. Back when the Manchester hopefuls didn't have a pound to their name, local band The Real People helped them make a name for themselves, assisting on their first demo and even winding up Tony McCarroll so he could get the drum sound on Bring It On Down. And it seemed that Noel thanked them by...taking one of their songs and rebuilding it.

Without giving them credit, songwriter Chris Griffiths had a song called Growing Old, whose lyrics and melody are almost identical to what Noel would use for the B-side Rocking Chair. That wasn't even the last time that The Real People "inspired" Noel either, taking the chorus of another song and twisting it into Don't Go Away from Be Here Now. Despite no legal action taking place though, some of the later pressings of Oasis songbooks do have Griffiths name in the credits for this song.
