10 Perfect Rock Songs That Were Written By Someone Else

6. Another Girl Another Planet - Blink-182

Towards the end of 2003, it was abundantly clear that Tom DeLonge had had enough of being in Blink-182. That one little side project he did with Box Car Racer may have worked well at recharging his batteries to write Blink material, but the self titled record that they made in the next few years had them frustrated about where to take their sound next. And as Tom prepared to go on space treks with Angels and Airwaves, he sort of teased what he would be up to by the bonus tracks on their greatest hits album.

Outside of their final single before the hiatus Not Now, Mark Hoppus offered up the song Another Girl Another Planet, which fit perfectly into the Blink mold while also namechecking the kind of space age theme that Tom was already working on. Everything about this song feels like Blink, but this is actually a cover song for them, being taken from an old power pop band from the '70s called the Only Ones.

While the original does have a bit more nerve behind it, this is a much more freewheeling good time, almost like they were in the studio goofing around before someone suggested that they record one of these jam sessions. By the time this came out though, Tom had effectively resigned from Blink through email, so this was probably the best send off song that we could have hoped for.
