10 Perfect Soft Rock Music Albums Of The '80s

3. Fleetwood Mac - Tango In The Night

The final time the fan favorite line-up of Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, Lindsey Buckingham, John McVie and Christine McVie put it together in the recording studio, 'Tango in the Night' managed to be a perfectly on-point send-off.

First released in April 1987, the beloved rock group's 14th studio album sees them being more accommodating than ever of the general '80s sound, emphasizing synthesizers more than ever before. While the more pop-friendly sound was alienating to some of their long-time, more blues and folk-oriented fans, it was a big hit with general audiences and critics alike.

Leading singles such as 'Big Love' and 'Seven Wonders' charted well at the time and see the group traversing familiar, romance-oriented ground. More personal tracks such as 'Welcome to the Room... Sara' took the band into darker territory than ever before, tackling subjects such as Stevie Nicks' cocaine addiction and stint in rehab.

The solo efforts of several members at the time, as well as the general difficulty in getting everyone together in the recording studio for extended periods of time, made this an especially troublesome album to complete. Despite the numerous behind-the-scenes and scheduling issues, though, the group still managed to put together another top-class soft rock spectacle. While it was a shame this line-up split, there were few ways they could've gone out on any bigger bang than this.
