10 Perfect Songs That Were Written Incredibly Fast
1. Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones
The entire rivalry that emerged between the Beatles and the Rolling Stones is really unfair to what both bands were doing. These guys had come from completely different upbringings back in England, and Keith Richards and Mick Jagger were more in tune with the bluesy side of playing, tapping into something a lot sinister than what Lennon and McCartney were trying to do with songs like I Want To Hold Your Hand. These guys could have easily just been playing blues covers for the rest of their lives, but the future of rock shifted when Keith awoke from a dream on tour.
After having been on the road for a while, Keith had an idea for a song that drove him out of bed, picking up his guitar in the corner of the room and coming up with the iconic guitar riff and opening lines of Satisfaction before going back to sleep. When Keith woke up the following day, he didn't even remember that he kept the tape rolling on his recorder, with the demo being him playing those iconic few bars followed by a few more minutes of snoring.
What we ended up with wasn't even how it was supposed to go either, with Keef wanting to simulate what a horn section would have been doing, until the fuzz box was brought into play and made for a much edgier sound than what everyone had planned. After Mick added some lyrics about sexual frustration, this was about more than just the blues. The British Invasion was underway and the rough sounds of rock and roll were about to pave the way to the future.
