10 Perfect Trip-Hop Albums With No Bad Songs

5. Deadringer - RJD2 (2002)

An overriding feature of trip-hop is that it lends itself to movie soundtracks. RJD2's Deadringer, is no exception. Track one feels like the theme of a Bond movie set in a dystopian future. Smoke & Mirrors, takes on the feeling of a Quentin Tarantino Western. And, Ghostwriter, could have been used to score a number of iconic sequences. Sadly, it was underutilised in the 2004 romantic comedy, Wimbledon... If you don't remember that movie you are to be forgiven, its only saving grace was this song.

As the record progresses, the hip hop influences become more prominent. There's plenty of New York jazz making its way into the album as well, particularly with tracks like, Final Frontier, and, F.H.H.. More Dead is another highlight, with jazz blues piano peppering a driving breakbeat. RJD2 knows when to deploy an effective horn section as well, providing an ample supply of triumphant joy throughout the album.

This record might not contain the same fluidity, as others on the list, but the individual tracks are full of merit. If you looking for something to bolster up your 'chill' playlist, then RJD2 is your man.
