6. Robb Flynn & Phil Demmel (Machine Head)
Or MACHINE F*CKING HEAD as its correctly typed and pronounced. The new definition of heavy metal, Bloodstock 2012 headliners Machine Head have had something of a tumultuous past, delving in and out of the nu-metal template back in the 90s before finding themselves and producing one of the best works of heavy music in 2007s The Blackening. Picking up where Metallica and Pantera left off, Machine lead-vocalist and twin-lead-guitarist Robb Flynn is a frontman for the ages, barking intelligent lyricisms alongside relentlessly brutal fretwork as he tag-teams guitar lines with the equally-eyeball-searing Phil Demmel. The two have elevated themselves into another world of psychotically-fast solos and apocalyptically-brutal chord progressions. The likes of Halo and Be Still and Know are some of their most stadium-sized pieces, with 2011 album Unto The Locusts Darkness Within bringing about a much more subdued side to the band, producing a solo the size of Metallicas The Unforgiven in the process.
