5. Matt Heafy & Corey Beaulieu (Trivium)
Trivium have waxed and waned as time has gone on. Once filled with glorious purpose, their sophomore LP Ascendancy of 2005 did exactly that, propelling them into next big thing-realms and promoting them alongside the bygone godfathers of the genre. Whilst personally I remain a huge fan of the bands output, even both their attempts at writing more accessible tracks on 2008s The Crusade, or recently-released fan-divider Vengeance Falls, the one thing that has never changed is their ability to write incredibly intricate guitar-passages that transcend sometimes questionable lyrics. Vengeance Falls is no different, with second single Strife featuring some of Beaulieus most advanced playing yet, and with Heafy leaning more heavily on first establishing himself as a melodic player through 2011s In Waves, the two play off each other extremely well, solidifying their inclusion in any list of noteworthy artists that are yet to fully capitalise on their potential.
