10 Pop Stars Who Should Have Been One-Hit Wonders
2. Will Smith
Call him the Fresh Prince forever. Because that's exactly where his music career should have stopped.
There was no reason to usher in a new "Willenium." How did we all let a grown man demand us to get jiggy, then simply shrug our shoulders, disregard that there's no such thing as getting jiggy, and then just kind of go with it until Wild Wild West came out?
His music has always been inextricably linked to his acting career. People were ready to write off the Fresh Prince and his dopey rap-lite song "Parents Just Don't Understand" until they saw him on their television screens performing weekly hijinks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. And his music only came back into the mainstream in the late 90s because he'd written the theme song for his sci-fi blockbuster Men In Black. But then it just kind of...stayed there. For a few more years.
Thankfully, it seems Smith has mostly given up making his own music in favor of coaching his children's fledgling careers. Then again, no one ever expects a Will Smith album. It just happens. So beware that the upcoming Suicide Squad film could feature another Smith hit called "The Joke(r)'s On You!" rolling over the credits.
