10 Positive Songs We Could All Use Right Now
5. Don't Give Up - Peter Gabriel
If there's one thing a lot of people can relate to now, it's the paranoia surrounding work. With thousands of people left without their jobs or steady incomes, things are starting to look a bit foreboding going forward. However, Peter Gabriel has graced us with one of the beautiful depictions of a man in dire straits on "Don't Give Up."
The entire track revolves around Gabriel's downtrodden lyrics, as he talks about being at the highest peak before seeing it all crumble before his eyes. The chilling atmosphere of the song sounds like you're in for a sad lament, but Kate Bush's voice cuts through like an angelic light. Her voice feels like the sonic embodiment of comfort, as she sings to our main character not to abandon hope just yet. It could be the man's lover, his parents, or just a good friend, but the message comes through regardless.
By the time she gets to the line "Don't give up cause I know there's a place where we belong," you can practically feel your heart coming out of the doldrums so you can persevere through the tough times. Peter Gabriel was known for having mind-expanding compositions, but this is the closest he's come to creating a pure emotional experience through music.
