For many fans, Green Day were their gateway into the world of punk. Their status as the biggest band produced by the 1990s punk revival (arguably alongside blink-182) makes them an accessible entry-point into some slightly weirder, harder, or just downright different bands out there. The only problem, which Green Day fans will often loudly proclaim, is that no other bands really stack up. Billie, Mike and Tre nailed the formula so comprehensively, it's hard to find a contemporary of theirs with quite the same combination of infectiousness and depth. Fans of blink-182, The Offspring, Alkaline Trio, Bowling For Soup and Fall Out Boy look away now.
