10 Punk Albums You Need To Own

5. Nevermind the Bollocks - Sex Pistols

At the end of the '70s, punk rock didn't really have a face yet. While bands like the Ramones were making waves overseas, there was no real way to tie the defiant attitude of the genre with the music. Once the Sex Pistols burst onto the scene, the entire rock world began to shift.

Granted, the Sex Pistols rise was a ticking timebomb waiting to go off. Formed in the mind of Malcolm McLaren, the band came together with guitarist Steve Jones and Johnny Rotten, both of which ended up becoming punk rock legends in their own right, but the internal struggle with Sid Vicious spelled disaster from the very beginning. Even though the band's studio output had all the potential to suck, Nevermind the !*$% still holds up as a defiant look at every hot button social practice imaginable.

Covering everything from abortion to anarchy, Johnny Rotten spits every line like he's on the verge of a mental breakdown, all while Jones provides a sonic smack in the mouth through his Marshall stack. All while remaining barebones from start to finish, Nevermind the !*$% will leave you feeling bloodied and bruised every time you put it on. The songs may be pretty basic by rock standards, but sometimes attitude is all you need to carry you into the big leagues.
