10 Punk Bands That Released 5 Great Albums In A Row

1. Fugazi

Fugazi wrote the manuscript for DIY culture, ethical touring and community activism. Coming from a background of legendary hardcore bands, this four-piece of Ian MacKaye, Joe Lally, Brendan Canty and Guy Picciotto weren’t just one of the most outstanding activists of the community but incredible musicians and even better songwriters.

This band didn’t make one bad album, they weren’t afraid to challenge their listeners through music and incorporated elements of dub, psychedelia and noise into their own blend of Rites of Spring inspired soul-bearing hardcore punk.

Ranking Fugazi albums or choosing a favourite is splitting hairs at the best of times, but the band’s run of 13 Songs (1989), Repeater (1990), Steady Diet of Nothing (1991), In on the Kill Taker (1993) and Red Medicine (1995) is pure perfection. In their own ways, these albums are inventive, vital and urgent.

Fugazi albums feature impressive arrangements often not associated with punk music and alongside the likes of Hüsker Dü and Sonic Youth proved in the 1980s that this genre of music could be just as vital as any other. Their music will live on just as long as the ethical practises they preached, what they’ve done for the genre will exist forever.
