10 Rare Smashing Pumpkins Songs You've Probably Never Heard

9. Blissed And Gone – Drone Version

Three versions of Blissed And Gone were included on the 2014 reissue of Adore; the CRC Demo, Sadlands Demo, and Drone Version. The CRC Demo is a sparce variant of the song recorded at the Chicago Recording Company. It has a raw, rehearsal feel. The version recorded at Sadlands is a more polished acoustic offering. However, the Drone Version is the most realised.

The Drone recording replaces the other versions’ percussion in favour of Corgan on piano. His vocals sound like they are about to break as he pleads for love. Critics have debated the Drone tag, a minimalist music genre which features an ‘emphasis sustained sounds, notes, or tone clusters – called drones’.

However, Spin journalist Colin Joyce concedes ‘it’s not quite Tim Hecker, but it is a fair bit more sorrowful and ambient than the original, so we’ll let that “drone” tag slide for the time being’.
