10 Rarest Band T-Shirts Of All Time
5. The Runaways – 1977 Tour - $7500
The Runaways were a legendary band comprised of all-female teenage members who are best known for their hit single ‘Cherry Bomb’ which probably soundtracks your favourite movie at one point. They struck it big in Japan before calling it a day in ’79, with rhythm guitarist Joan Jett going on to record ‘I Love Rock 'n' Roll’ and selling millions in the process.
The band have started becoming quite collectible since they broke up and a movie about the band starring Dakota Fanning as vocalist Cherie Currie and Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett was released in 2010. Especially one of their t-shirts they sold on tour.
The band’s 1977 ‘School Days’ tour of Europe saw them play 24 dates from October to December with each date being listed on the back of the t-shirt along with an image of barbed wire at the bottom that goes along with the artwork for the album they were touring at the time ‘Waitin' for the Night’. On the front it has pink lipstick kisses covering it. It’s a simplistically cool design that works well.
The t-shirts are of particular value, going as high as $7,500 each if in decent to good condition, likely from Japanese buyers/fans.
