8. Oversaturation In The 2000s
We tend to remember Arctic Monkeys, the Killers and the Strokes as the bigger rock bands who dominated the charts. But what about the Gossip? The Holloways? Even celebrities like Russell Brand and Pete Doherty, shows like the Inbetweeners and Skins? Indie-rock bled through culture, you can't blame the public for getting bored with it. Because for every Bloc Party, there was The Wombats, and because it was easier than ever to get your music out there through MySpace, indie over-saturated the airwaves of Radio 1. It was the go-to for credibility, for the Brits to MTV, and for every great band, there was the Pigeon Detectives. It's not that bad indie bands were that much worse than bad Britpoppers, but thanks to the internet, we've all heard a lot more of the former. Indie needed a couple of years off. A bit of a hiatus. We needed some breathing space. But we had so much of it, we might still not be ready for another indie invasion.
