5. The Ides Of March - Myles Kennedy
It’s almost a given that Myles Kennedy delivers quality no matter what is it he is doing. The Alter Bridge frontman’s solo work is right up there with his work alongside Tremonti and co. His latest release is an injection of pure hope and vigor for anyone smart enough to give it a listen.
Thematically, the album focuses on the ideas of rebirth and new beginnings. Given the times we live in, the message could not have been better timed. We open with the slide guitar heavy “Get Along”, before moving into the equally energetic “A Thousand Worlds” and “In Stride”.
The title track is perhaps the musical peak of the album. A seven-minute-plus epic with a heavy dose of prog, it puts the extraordinary talent of the people behind the instruments on full display. Things slow down a bit with the emotion filled “Love Rain Down”. Finally, the album ends on a blues infused note with “Worried Mind”, which sees Myles deliver more of the vocal mastery that has seen him become one of rock’s greatest frontmen.
