6. Detroit Stories - Alice Cooper

Speaking of the true essence of rock 'n' roll, we should always remember that one of the most endearing aspects of the genre is that tells us to live to the fullest, without getting overly serious. Few people have embodied the latter as much as Alice Cooper.

The rock legend is still smashing it, several decades into his legendary music journey. Detroit Stories was a tip of the hat to everything that made Cooper such an enjoyable act, while still holding enough solid material, to stand out as a good album in its own right.

A good chunk of the album is pure sarcasm. “Go Man Go” makes a total mockery out of toxic male standards, “I Hate is You” is hilarious and tear-jerking in equal measure, as it basically features the surviving members of the original band poking fun at one another. And then there is “Shut Up and Rock”, a catchy jibe at other rock artists who tend to get a little too serious with the themes in their music.

Upbeat with a touch of the macabre, singing about everything but taking none of it seriously, this was Alice Cooper at his best.
