8. DNCE - Hands To Myself (Original: Selena Gomez)
Talk about keeping it in the Disney family. Normally known for their high-energy approach, a few eyebrows were raised when fans caught wind that the Joe Jonas fronted band DNCE decided to cover this Selena Gomez hit. Little did anyone know that they would come up with this sultry, groovy number though.
Jonas and co all but take people on a journey on their first listen, starting with Joe seductively whispering the first few lines. At this point, no one is really sure where it's going. That's until that funky bass kicks in, which starts to pique curiosity. Then about halfway through, the song just explodes with Jonas really going for it and catching everyone off-guard, firmly holding their attention for the song's duration.
As a whole, the cover just oozes confidence, giving it a personality that was heavily lacking in Gomez's iteration. While Selena may have brought out the playful elements of the song better, DNCE make it feel more authentic and fun, steering away from the original's more manufactured tendencies. So from now on, I think I'm sticking with this version thank you very much.
