10 Replacement Hard Rock Singers That NAILED It (Or Just Didn't Fit)
2. John Corabi - Motley Crue (Never Quite Fit)
Motley Crue burst out of the Sunset Strip scene in LA, and led the glam/hard rock phenomenon that would take the mid-late 1980s by storm. Every member was an imposing character, wearing a combination of leather, spandex and extensive makeup to create an image that was all about partying, and absolutely epitomised the sex, drugs and rock & roll lifestyle.
Vince Neil was their charismatic singer, a real ladies man who’s image inspired the Aerosmith hit Dude Looks Like A Lady. But as immortalised in the film Dirt (based on the bands memoirs), his relationship deteriorated with his band mates and he left in 1993.
Motley Crue turned to the talented John Corabi to fill in on vocal duties, pinching him from The Scream to record their self-titled album in 1994. The record was a departure from their usual glam sound as Motley Crue took influence from the alternative scene and the likes of Soundgarden and Alice In Chains.
And while the album is actually some of their best and most mature work, the fans just did not take to the change of front man, voting with their feet on the subsequent disappointing tour for the band.
Motley Crue quickly decided to patch up their differences with Vince Neil, and let Corabi go in order to appease their fanbase, and to financially get the band back on track.
