10 Rock "Sellout" Albums That Are Actually Really Good
3. The Game - Queen
If Queen fans have learned anything, it's to expect absolutely nothing going into one of their records. Throughout the '70s, these royal rock gods had graced with every stripe of rock imaginable on albums like a Night at the Opera and Sheer Heart Attack, from blues to punk to showtunes to full blown opera. However, no one was really anticipating that they would snap on a dime into the world of pop.
Yeah, there seems to be a bit of weirdness when it comes to the Game. For all intents and purposes, this is where the band supposedly sold out, with songs that were much more about getting onto the radio than actually pushing their creative muse forward. On the other hand, is everyone just forgetting the amount of hits on this record? I mean, songs like Another One Bites the Dust is poppy, but it still holds up as an outright classic of the '80s.
It's not like the experimental chops have gone anywhere, with Crazy Little Thing Called Love being a full blown rockabilly number that was just hooky enough to get on the radio and even Dragon Attack bringing some attitude back into the mix. After years of making one rock juggernaut after another, this is the sound of Queen having fun, and who says that rock royalty can't enjoy themselves from time to time?
