10 Rock Album Covers That Led To Massive Lawsuits
8. Rocka Rolla - Judas Priest
If you looked at the cover of Judas Priest's debut for more than a few seconds, you already know that the lawsuit was just waiting to happen. With the band's play on words with Rocka Rolla and the discount font in cursive, it's pretty much verbatim lifted from the Coca Cola ads that we all know. In the '70s though, it took a little while longer for things to come back around for the metal ministers.
While you normally want to go after any big band who doesn't credit their source, this album virtually did nothing upon first release, leading the band to nearly fade into obscurity until they found their voice on Sad Wings of Destiny just a little while later. At the time though, there was no point in suing a band that barely had a penny to their name to begin with.
When the Priest found their congregation though, some suits now suddenly had a few choice words about the cover, calling it an obvious rip and demanding that they change it to something else. While the alternate version of the album cover does fit the Judas Priest aesthetic a lot better than this, chances are you can still find that original cola knockoff out there in the wild.
