10 Rock Albums That Artists Want You To Forget About

3. One Hot Minute - Red Hot Chili Peppers

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have pretty much been known for their internal issues ever since they hit it big. Even though Anthony Kiedis and Flea remain the two inseparable puzzle pieces in the group, acquiring guitar god John Frusciante ended up being a bit of double-edged sword, as he found it increasingly uncomfortable being in the public eye. Quitting right in the middle of the tour for Blood Sugar Sex Magik, the Peppers' search for a new guitarist led to one of the biggest bombs in '90s rock.

It almost feels wrong saying that too considering that One Hot Minute is far from a bad record. Compared to some of the straightahead grunge of the time, the Peppers delicately toe the line between hard rock, funk, and even acoustic ballads across this record. Even with the songs holding up, the era of Dave Navarro has been permanently cleansed from the Peppers' back catalog as of late.

Navarro wasn't a bad fit for the band on principle, but the bitter fallout and lukewarm reception this record got made him the unintended scapegoat for the Peppers' falloff. Nowadays, most best-of collections tend to only include one or two songs from One Hot Minute like Aeroplane, which, while good, don't really give the best first impression of what this album is really like. Despite the best of artistic intentions, One Hot Minute is one of those few forgotten records that is in dire need of some love.
