10 Rock Albums That Haven't Aged Well At All
5. Cut the Crap - The Clash
For some of the diehard fans of the Clash, the real end of the band came after the tour for Combat Rock wrapped up, with Mick Jones being fired from the band and the Clash never reuniting. It might not have been the optimal choice for any Clash fan, but it's nice to know that the Only Band That Mattered held onto their integrity and bowed out without ever having to sacrifice their message. If we're being honest though, that's just a lie that us Clash fans tell ourselves so we can sleep at night.
What really happened was Joe Strummer and Paul Simonon resurrecting the Clash from the ground up, bringing in two different guitarists to replace Mick and letting their manager Bernie Rhodes have a hand in producing their next album. Despite their efforts to bring back the snotty punk attitude back into the '80s, Cut the Crap just sounds like the Clash are tired and unsure about how to fit their sound into the next generation.
Even though their use of electronics on Combat Rock worked fairly well, hearing them get into different synthesizer sounds just feels wrong, especially when some of the drum machines sound like they aren't even programmed properly. There's definitely some anger present on this record, but above all else, it just feels sad that the band that held onto their ideals are gone for good.
