10 Rock Albums That Haven't Aged Well At All

6. Some Time In New York City - John Lennon

As the '60s political upheaval got more and more out of hand, John Lennon seemed to be the one songwriter equipped to handle the problems. Even though someone like Bob Dylan could call out politicians in power for jerking around those at the bottom, Lennon's songs like Give Peace a Chance and Imagine made it feel like some solution was possible, looking to find some sort of middle ground and live in peace. When he moved to New York City for the first time though, Some Time in New York City was the moment where his silver tongue got the better of him.

While there are a good handful of songs on this album as far as John is concerned, this was never the kind of protest songs that Lennon could sell effectively, either going for a cynical tone or letting the message get in the way of the music. Outside of a few non political highlights like New York City, hearing The Luck of The Irish sounds really out of character for John, almost sounding defeatist about what went down on Bloody Sunday and not really having a way to resolve it.

As much as some of these songs were swallowed by the politics of the day, the lack of sales did give Lennon a chance to take a step back, making sure his message wouldn't get in the way of the music as much. There's the makings of some great songs from both John and Yoko on here, but it's never a good sign when an album makes you do homework to know what the songs are about.
