10 Rock Albums That Killed Artists' Careers

7. Blink-182 - Blink-182

By the time Blink-182 had reached the mid '00s, pop punk was looking a lot different than when they first hit with Enema of the State. Since everyone from Simple Plan to Sum 41 were coming up as their competition, they needed to have an out of the box decision to send them over the top. The only problem was that everybody in the band seemed to have a different idea of where they should be going.

By some miracle though, the self titled Blink record may be the greatest statement they have ever made, bringing in bits of alternative and even gothic styles into the mix to make songs that sounded a lot more heartfelt from the guys who sang about mating with dogs and ran around naked in their music videos. This could definitely hang with the Green Days of the world, but only for a short while longer.

Once the tour wrapped up for this record, Tom DeLonge announced that he would be cutting ties with Blink after wanting to go in some new directions. When they actually did reunite with Tom back in the 2010's, the reaction to their direction was tepid at best. Though there was a chance that Blink would become something more than pop punk, the weight of the new direction proved to be more than they could carry.
