10 Rock Albums That Peak With The Final Song
6. Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Another contentious one here, which will all depend on how you like your chili peppers sliced.
The seventh album from RHCP, Californication is still the band's most successful and captured a point in time when they knew exactly what they were about. This was before them writing songs about their home state had become a meme.
Whilst the title track is a favourite, the other contender for best is number three, Scar Tissue - a song so good Anthony Kiedis named his book after it!
The final track of the album is in a similar ballpark to Scar Tissue; a slower, more introspective song for the funk-rock hellraisers. But where Road Trippin' has the advantage is in its creepiness.
There's just something sinister about that main guitar riff and the way that Kiedes, Flea, and John Frusciante all harmonise is just haunting.
Also, "These smiling eyes are just a mirror for the sun" is a phenomenal lyric.
The decision to close out this record with a soft acoustic tale about a surfing trip was extremely brave, but there's absolutely no denying that it paid off.
