10 Rock Albums That Peak With The First Song
6. Raw Power - Iggy And The Stooges
You can't tell the story of punk rock without at least five chapters dedicated to Iggy Pop and his band The Stooges.
Originally a more groove-based outfit, The Stooges took a harder turn with their third record Raw Power from 1973. Thanks to the influence of new guitarist James Williamson, the band took on a grittier, more aggressive edge with this offering and established themselves as cult favourites in the process.
The album wastes absolutely no time getting down to business, as the opening track Search and Destroy is their new mission statement to a tee. Pounding chords, evocative lyrics, and enough distortion to disrupt a radar guidance system, Search and Destroy still goes hard over fifty years after it first emerged.
The rest of the album has some good songs on it, but none match up to the industry-shifting mayhem of track one. It's appeared on multiple rundowns of some of the best songs ever recorded and it helped set into motion one of the most exciting genres the world has ever seen.
Also, David Bowie was the producer, so how could we possibly ignore it?
