10 Rock Albums That Peak With The First Song
5. News Of The World - Queen
Unless you're a badger or whoever sells him hairspray, there's no doubt that the best thing Brian May ever did was come up with We Will Rock You.
His foot-stomping, hand-clapping, sing-along opus is one of the all-time great audience participation songs. Everyone knows how to join in. Hell, there are probably babies born tapping out the rhythm on their umbilical chords!
It's catchy, it's infectious, and the fans do all the work! You're a genius, Brian!
Perhaps that why Queen wanted to put it front and centre of their album News of the World in 1977. Immediately preceding We Are The Champions (which is technically a better song, but whatever), We Will Rock You gets the album off to a terrific start and then, well, it sort of goes a bit mental.
Hardcore fans love News of the World, but there isn't much there for the casuals. Sheer Heart Attack is alright, but things get super freaky with the likes of Fight From the Inside and Get Down, Make Love.
It's not News of the World's fault that We Will Rock You became the iconic it is today, but it happened, so what you gonna do?
