10 Rock Albums That Were A Nightmare To Make

7. Be Here Now - Oasis

At the height of Oasis' fame, there was nothing that was going to get in the way of the Gallaghers' rise to power. Their fascination with the work of the Beatles was only matched by the strength of their egos, which they delivered on notching up hit after hit on the albums Definitely Maybe and What's the Story Morning Glory. According to Noel Gallagher though, everything lived and died on the third record, and Be Here Now is the sound of their ego getting the better of them.

Before the band even played a note of music though, it was hard even finding a place to record properly, having to be shuffled around the country and being hounded by fans everywhere they went. When they actually did find time to play some music though, there was no such thing as the phrase 'less is more,' with producer Owen Morris filling up every single track on the mixing console with as much noise as possible, all while Noel threw in one guitar lick after the other.

Whereas before you had songs that cut right to the point like Wonderwall or Don't Look Back In Anger, you can really feel the length of these tracks setting in the more you listen to it, with every song sounding like a good 4 minute song and then drawn out for 7 or 9 minutes at a time. Oasis had definitely delivered on their promise of being the biggest band in the world, but Be Here Now is what happens when you start believing your own hype and bury yourself under way too much cocaine.
