10 Rock Albums That Were A Nightmare To Make

2. The White Album - The Beatles

At the end of the '60s, the Beatles were about to enter some of their darkest days. Looking to expand their spiritual horizons, the Fabs ventured to India to study transcendental meditation, often with varying results. While they did emerge with more songs than they could count, no one got back to Abbey Road Studios on the same page.

As it stands now, The White Album stands less as a cohesive project and more like a collection of songs by four great separate artists. Instead of the brother-like camaraderie that you got from albums like A Hard Day's Night, you can sense a clear divide in every one of these recordings, which makes sense give that most of the band members were separated during recording. Oftentimes venturing off by themselves, there are a handful of tracks on here that only feature Paul McCartney or John Lennon, with the rest of the parts being played by session musicians.

The tension between each member turned so nasty that producer George Martin ended up taking a vacation from the project, along with Ringo Starr flat out quitting the group for a while until they insisted that he come back. Even George Harrison's masterpiece While My Guitar Gently Weeps had to feature Eric Clapton on guitar just to calm everybody else down. Even though this album has an all white cover, don't let that deceive you from the ugliness that went into this.
