10 Rock Albums That You MUST Listen To In Full
2. Abbey Road - The Beatles
By 1969, the Beatles had come a long way since being the moptops that the world fell for at the start of the decade. After undergoing classes for Transcendental Meditation before going into making the White Album, the resulting sessions left each member at each others' throats wanting to flex their own creative muscles. As opposed to just calling it a day, the Fabs laid down their hangups and came together for one final hoorah.
Though Let It Be's position as the last proper Beatles album is actually the final Beatles record, Abbey Road is the true swan song that most of us were looking for. From front to back, you can tell that most of these songs are written by one person only to be enhanced by the contributions from the rest of the group. Starting off with the swampy vibes of John Lennon's Come Together to the bright ray of light in George Harrison's Here Comes the Sun, this whole project feels like the Fabs getting reacquainted with their artistic selves again.
In the end, they really do save the best bits for last, culminating in a near 20 minute operatic section of music which includes a medley of 9 different song fragments put together. Being on the cusp of prog, pop, and just good rock and roll, Abbey Road has a good helping of every single aspect of what made the Beatles great to begin with.
