10 Rock Albums You Constantly Have To Defend Loving
6. Red Hot Chili Peppers: Stadium Arcadium (2006)
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are a fairly polarising group. Either you find Anthony Kiedis' whimsical and baffling wordplay ridiculous, or you can't lap up all the references to California fast enough. Similarly their funk inspired take on rock will either have you dancing around like a chimpanzee on speed, or it will have you cursing the day you ever heard Give It Away.
Whether you're an ardent Chilis enthusiast or simply not fused, everyone can agree their 2006 double album was hella long. Most people will concede it contains some of their biggest and best numbers: Tell Me Baby, Snow (hey oh), Slow Cheetah and of course Dani California. But whenever this album is brought up, it's never long before someone criticises it for having too many filler tracks, right? Wrong.
Yes this album is long, but each song is incredibly well crafted, you'd be hard pressed to cut any. Wet Sand has one of Fruciante's greatest guitar solos; Especially in Michigan has an incredible chorus that comes out of nowhere; Hard to Concentrate is perhaps the group's silkiest track; and Storm in a Teacup is high octane fire. That's to name a few. Is it their best album? Possibly not... , should you have to defend loving it? Hell no.
