10 Rock And Metal Albums From The 2000s The Critics Got Wrong
1. Meteora - Linkin Park (2003)
Linkin Park’s debut album was a staggering success. It injected the nu-metal genre with fresh blood and remains one of the best-selling albums of all time.
Despite the success of Hybrid Theory, Meteora received a fair share of criticism for being too similar to the band’s debut. Sputnikmusic even said the album was a waste of money because of how much it resembled Hybrid Theory.
Whilst there’s no denying the similarities between the two records, it would have been mad to ditch such a unique sound after just one album, particularly given Hybrid Theory is only thirty-five minutes long.
Songs such as ‘Faint’ and ‘Numb’ are considered to be some of the band’s best material, and the more experimental ‘Breaking the Habit’ is a clear standout within the context of both Meteora and the band's wider discography.
Though Hybrid Theory is often seen as their best work, there’s very little between Linkin Park’s first two albums. Both of them are brimming with catchy, hard-hitting tunes that are the apex of the nu-metal genre. As such, Meteora's Metacritic score of 62 is far too low for such a phenomenal record.
