Who doesn't love it when an old band decide to get back together?

Actually, there have been many instances of this exact thing being a total disaster, buy sometimes it's good!

Whether they've ironed out old differences or just need the money because somebody's going through another divorce, rock bands' returning from hiatus is a well-worn trope of the genre.

A big comeback usually means a new album and, every so often, these releases can capture the magic of days gone by.

Equally, a band can be riding high one day and then plummet out of relevancy the next. Then, after years of languishing in cultural obscurity, they can revamp their style and release something that gets everyone talking about them once again.

These two definitions will be getting all the attention here, as this list is about bands who had to wait over ten years between big albums.

A "hit" in this instance is a top 10 album in the most relevant national market. These bands might have stayed popular in these time periods, but that does not meant that they were a charting act.

10. Blur - 12 Years

Ever since the release of their third album Parklife in 1994, Britpop legends Blur have always topped the UK charts.

Parklife was followed up with four more releases, culminating with 2003's Think Tank. This was when, after a massive run of chart dominance, Blur went silent.

Guitarist Graham Coxon had left the band a year earlier and other members of the group had become involved with various side projects. Damon Albarn had Gorillaz and bassist Alex James was part of a project called Fat Les.

Their best known song was named after a type of curry.

Fans of Country House would be treated to a number of reunion concerts over the next decade or so, but it wasn't until 2015 that their prayers for a new studio album were answered.

The Magic Whip welcomed Coxon back into the fold and went down a treat with fans and critics alike. It too shot straight to number one and even picked up a nice little gold record for its troubles.

The band then went on hiatus again and are due to release a new album in 2023, which falls just a little short of the requirements for this list.
