10 Rock Artists That Ripped Off Other Bands
1. Oasis
The tail end of the '90s truly belonged to Britpop. After the grunge scene left most of the rock crowd feeling sad and depressed by the end of the song, this throwback to the early days of rock and roll ended up being just what fans needed to pick themselves off their feet. It's one thing to draw influence from the '60s...it's something else entirely to just outright plagiarize.
While Oasis were the Britpop poster children from the very beginning, it was absolutely clear that they wanted to be the Beatles from the very beginning. On one hand, you had Liam Gallagher's vocals, which just sounded like a more snide version of what John Lennon would have done. On the other hand, you had his brother Noel's songwriting, which would often devolve into Beatles parody right out of the gate. Look no further than songs like Don't Look Back in Anger and She's Electric, whose melodies feel like they're lifted verbatim from Imagine and While My Guitar Gently Weeps respectively.
Whereas other bands may deny these influences, Oasis have always owned up to their inspiration, even going so far as to lace Beatles song titles into the lyrics, from "yellow submarine" in Supersonic to "the long and winding road" in My Big Mouth. Though the Gallagher Brothers may go on and on about being the greatest band in the world, it's abundantly clear who they really think the greatest band in the world is when you hear their music.
