10 Rock Artists That Ripped Off Other Bands

9. Cheap Trick

Ever since the end of the '60s, it seems that every record company wanted to find their version of the Beatles. Though the Fab Four may have rewritten the rules on what constitutes a good rock band, there's no real way that you can capture that same kind of magic twice. Then again, Cheap Trick did give it their best shot to make their Liverpool heroes proud.

Across their discography, these Rockford misfits have made an entire career out of deconstructing Beatles melodies. From the tuneful way that they write their riffs down to the way the harmonies overlap on top of each other, there is definitely something that always reminds you of the Fab Four, especially in the Revolver/Rubber Soul era. It also doesn't help when you listen to Robin Zander's vocal style, which somehow sounds like a complete hybrid of John Lennon and Paul McCartney's vocals.

Those comparisons didn't really hurt them in the long run though. As they progressed through each album, the sound of the band eventually got a lot more raw, setting the stage for what became known as power pop later down the line with The Cars and The Jam, even leading them to collaborate with Beatles producer George Martin. While there might be some questionable similarities here and there, it's a pretty high accolade when you're called "The American Beatles."
