10 Rock Artists That Ripped Off Other Bands
5. Aerosmith
After the British Invasion, thousands of American bands were looking to mine their own version of rock and roll. Since the British kids were already co-opting the styles of blues from the American South, it was only a matter of time before America answered back with bands of their own. Though Aerosmith was known as one of the first real success stories, they did get a little bit of clapback for being a bit too derivative.
As these Bad Boys From Boston were trying to make a name for themselves off the strength of their first album, there were people lining up to call them a second rate Rolling Stones. While the differences between Aerosmith and the Stones seem like night and day now, they did have a decent argument back in the day, with Steven Tyler and Joe Perry having the same dynamic and even sharing a passing resemblance to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
Hell, even the more classic Aerosmith songs of the time like Mama Kin and Same Old Song and Dance were incorporating horns the same way the Stones had started doing on albums like Exile on Main Street. Aerosmith did eventually get their own sound by incorporating some blues boogie into the mix, but at this stage, they still had a hard road ahead of them if they wanted to be taken seriously.
