10 Rock Artists With Multiple Classics Under Their Belt

The first half of Bruce Springsteen's career seemed to be centered around running as far away from the Bob Dylan comparisons as possible. The Boss certainly admired Dylan's approach to telling stories with his music, but Born to Run was the first time we got something different, using the power of the E Street Band to create a story that no one could tell by themselves. Bruce was always an artist though, and the real test would be in how he could work in different environments.

Leading up to Born to Run, Bruce and his band barely made it out in one piece, working to the brink before they found something that would go down in rock history. Coming out of Jersey, Springsteen's third album held onto all the ideals that rock and roll was supposed to have, creating tales of underdogs that had the odds stacked against them but are still going to try and make an honest stand anyway. Not all of the underdogs win though, and Bruce saved the morose side of life for Nebraska.

Operating without his band for the first time, most of Nebraska is just Bruce and a guitar, playing songs that are a lot more torn and frayed than before, telling the stories of people that were never quite able to face their demons and having some heavy miles on their souls as a result of it. Bruce might seem more like a myth in rock and roll, but behind all of that strutting that you saw him do in the days of Born in the USA is a man that's trying to account for a lot of those lost souls he saw when he was coming up.
