10 Rock Band Reunions That REALLY Didn't Work
5. Endless Wire - The Who
There's a good case to be made that the Who could have called it quits after Keith Moon passed away. Though Pete Townshend may be the mastermind behind every single song, the kind of manic energy that Moon the Loon brought to every song he played was never going to be equaled, so why would they try to mess with perfection? They did continue on though, and it seemed fine up until we reached Endless Wire.
While carrying on without Moon might have still been understandable, not having bassist John Entwistle in the mix either on this album just makes the Who feel like a shell of themselves. It might be admirable that Roger Daltrey has been able to hold on to his aggressive vocal approach, but some of these songs are definitely not at the level that they should be, either because of lyrics that are a bit too on the nose or Pete Townshend just singing like he doesn't really want to be in the studio that day.
And as much as the bonus disc might include the kind of epic song cycle that made the Who so special back in the day, it's hard not to see it more as a crowdpleaser than an actual heartfelt song or anything. We still have the voice and the man that has written it all on here, but there's no real artistic values behind a record like this other than remind you that the Who exists.
