10 Rock Band Reunions That REALLY Didn't Work
4. The Endless River - Pink Floyd
As rock entered the '00s, fans had made their peace with the fact that Pink Floyd were never going to make music again. The real golden age of the band seemed to end once Roger Waters left the fold, and the band even made a point to say that they weren't going to be reuniting after their Live 8 performance in 2005. David Gilmour did decide to carry on though, and it made for some of the best audio Nyquil that you will ever hear.
Before you even get into the Endless River, it was at least put together for the right reasons. Much like Wish You Were Here was a tribute album to their fallen bandmate Syd Barrett, this one is made as a tribute to their keyboardist Richard Wright, who had passed away a few years prior. While their hearts were definitely in the right place here, picking up where the Division Bell left off back in the '90s wasn't really what the hardcore fans of Floyd were looking for, especially when over half of the track listing is an instrumental project.
Though the golden era of Floyd would probably be able to get away with writing a classic album that's nothing but instrumentals, there's not really much to salvage on here, sounding a lot closer to the ambient music that you would listen to while you wait in a doctor's office. Floyd may have had the final say on their career here, but after years out of practice, they seemed to trade in their hard hitting songs for rock and roll ASMR music.
