10 Rock Band Reunions That REALLY Didn't Work
2. Led Zeppelin
It would have been completely understandable for Led Zeppelin to die the minute that John Bonham passed away. Bonzo was the beating heart behind the band, and his signature swing and style was not going to be equaled by anybody, leaving the band to pursue solo projects for the rest of their career. When Zeppelin did come together for a few shows though, fans were ecstatic. This was the reunion we hoped for, dreamed for, and one that we never actually got to see.
In the wake of Zeppelin's music getting a resurgence with the masses, the plan was for the guys to play a few shows at the O2 arena in London, with Jason Bonham covering for Dad behind the drum kit. And from what we can see from the live clips, they still have their chops between them, with Robert Plant sounding a lot more seasoned in his old age and Jimmy Page matching him for stage charisma as they tear through songs like Rock and Roll and Ramble On.
Just when it looked like we were about to get a full tour with this new version of Zeppelin, Plant called it off, saying that he didn't really feel comfortable continuing on outside of those few dates. As much as people may have been bummed, this might have been the best thing to do to make sure Zeppelin remains a pure memory for rock fans. These songs have become the Holy Grail for fans of hard rock music, and the last thing that you'd want to do is to tarnish the legacy of what you already built.
