10 Rock Bands EVERYONE Tried To Copy
1. The Beatles
No matter what kind of music you were into in the '60s, you more than likely found time for the Beatles. While the early rock and roll was a ton of fun as party music, the Beatles took the reins of rock and reshaped it in their own image. They may get dragged through the mud as the first "boy band," but there was always something much more sophisticated at play behind the moptops.
I could probably just stop the argument right here by saying that without the Beatles, the concept of a rock band would not exist. While Chuck Berry and Little Richard may have been rock and roll stars, it wasn't until the Beatles that the rock and roll music was seen as a collective endeavor, with every member being integral to the success.
As the band made their way through the '60s, pretty much any style of rock going forward ended up being shaped by them.
Looking for folk rock? Try on Rubber Soul for size. Want something more artsy? You can't go wrong with Sgt. Peppers or the White Album. Need just some good pop music? Take a peek at literally any of the band's ballads. There are plenty of bands who tried to copy what the Beatles did, but their influence goes much further than that.
Rock had a firm hold on pop music, but the Beatles are why rock was able to thrive for many more generations to come.
