10 Rock Bands People Love To Hate
6. Ghost
You can search the modern rock scene as far and as wide as your heart desires, but the chances are you will not come across a band that matches the distinctive presence of Ghost anywhere. The Swedish hybrid rock band were formed in 2006 by vocalist Tobias Forge, who has performed with the band under a number of different personas. The nature of the band is so reclusive and secretive, that Tobias Forge was not formally acknowledged as the band’s lead singer until 2017, when former members tried to sue him for alleged undeclared royalties.
The awe and spectacle of Ghost has earned them a strong following, while opposition to the band has come hard and fast from all directions. Within rock music, people accuse them of being a gimmick band and musically bland, while organisations beyond the confines of rock such as the Catholic Church have had numerous run-ins with the group over their Satanic imagery. Ghost’s image was so controversial that their albums were banned from major chain stores in the United States until 2013.
Today, Ghost have five full length studio albums to their name, a Grammy and 14 other major awards.
