10 Rock Bands That Were Successful After Major Lineup Changes
6. Rush
Rush is famous for their incredibly complex musicianship and diversified catalog of sounds and styles. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013, the band has a very dedicated fan base. Their style is polarizing to be sure, but it's impossible to overlook the talent that vocalist/bassist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson and drummer Neil Peart possess. Original drummer John Rutsey was forced to withdraw from the band immediately following the release of their debut album due to complications from diabetes. With no disrespect to Rutsey, this is probably diabetes' only positive contribution to humanity, because it gave music fans the opportunity to witness the greatness of Neil Peart. Chosen as the greatest drummer of all-time by his peers, critics and fans, Peart is to drumming what Hendrix was to guitar. His live solos have to be seen to be believed and anyone who has ever picked up a pair of drumsticks has studied Peart. He also composes the majority of Rush's lyrics, inspired by themes such as fantasy and philosophy as well as the more traditional topics. While it's impossible to know whether Rush would have achieved the same level of success had Rutsey remained in the band, it's undeniable that their influence on music would have been much less significant. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fADeOpIhHIk
