10 Rock Bands That Almost Killed Each Other In The Studio

9. One By One - Foo Fighters

The Foo Fighters have got to be one of the most easygoing bands in the history of rock and roll. From their straight ahead bangers to the open-hearted ballads they put on their records, it's almost difficult not to have a good time when listening to Dave Grohl spark up his musical fire. You say that now though...the early '00s were a completely different story.

After Grohl, Nate Mendel, and Taylor Hawkins made There Is Nothing Left To Lose as a trio, the sessions for their next album One by One were a disaster. Taking to the road after getting guitarist Chris Shiftlett, Hawkins overdosed on one of the tour dates and was hospitalized for days in a coma. Once he came to and everyone reconvened at home, Grohl decided to cool out by playing with Queens of the Stone Age, which created a lot of bad blood between him and Hawkins.

By the time they actually got around to making a Foos' record, the energy was so tense that the group's future almost ended on tour. Though Hawkins and Grohl eventually settled their differences, they had to end up starting from scratch and throw away nearly $1,000,000 worth of material to start again. Given the nightmare it took to create, One by One is the sound of the Foos at odds, doing everything they can to build themselves back up.
