10 Rock Bands That Defined The 2000's
8. Paramore
One genre that was indicative of 2000's rock was pop punk. From the radio to MTV, you couldn't escape bands like Sum 41 and Blink-182 playing the signature bratty style. That being said, Paramore helped buck the trend of what pop punk bands are supposed to do with their career.
The band started out as a punk band that had an almost hard-edged metal sound to it on their debut All We Know is Falling. Though 2007's Riot was the closest the band came to full-blown pop punk, the release of 2009's Brand New Eyes proved their diverse musical chops.
There was pop punk for sure, but fans could also find alternative rock, pop, and even some slow-burn acoustic songs in the mix.
At the helm of the band through it all has been front woman Hayley Williams. Not only are her lyrics very thoughtful on each release, but her voice is one of the best in modern rock... period. She could go toe-to-toe with belters like Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera and hold her own. But she utilizes her voice primarily for pop rock, which the band have been delivering letter-perfectly for years.
