10 Rock Bands That Destroyed Their Own Legacies

2. Weezer

It seemed like such an innocent time when Weezer first broke onto the scene with their colorful Blue Album. After months of depression following Kurt Cobain's passing, many rock fans found their way back from the edge with these nerd rockers. Instead of singing about how hurt you were, rock seemed to be a little more fun again.

Though the band's followup Pinkerton didn't fare too well in its time, the record is now regarded as a modern classic. Once the band regrouped after a few years apart though, their vision seemed to be less on their original sound and more on stepping into different territory.

It's perfectly fine for a band to experiment, but the band's ventures into new musical styles have led to many disappointments over the years. For every record like Maladroit, there's a record like Raditude that comes in that leaves Weezer looking like dads trying to catch up with the trendy music of today. The band did seem to be on the upswing with their latest albums, but further screwups like Pacific Daydream have left many fans questioning the band's motives. These days it's a toss up whether the band's latest record will be good or bad, but it seems that the band will continue to go their own way regardless of their past mistakes.
