10 Rock Bands That Fell Apart At The Top Of Their Game

5. At The Drive In

In the era of pop punk and nu metal, no one was quite ready for what At the Drive In were giving us. Fitting somewhere within the post hardcore genre, Relationship of Command was the first record that sounded like the future of rock, with every band member giving 100% and sounding on the verge of chaos in some spots. And it seemed like these musicians would push the rock genre that much more forward...it would just be in different bands.

Right around the time that they were doing the tours for Relationship of Command, the entire group started to unravel, disagreeing on the different directions of the group. While you would think that the manic performances that they gave every night should have let off some steam, the potential that Omar Rodriguez Lopez had for his playing seemed to be a bit too much for even his main outfit to take.

Going on indefinite hiatus at the start of the '00s, Omar did end up resurfacing with the Mars Volta, which developed into a much more prog centric rock outfit, giving you long drawn out song sequences that you weren't even sure that you were able to comprehend at the time. Other groups might fall out because of personality conflicts, but it sometimes feels like Omar had too much going on in his head for one band to contain properly.
