10 Rock Bands That Got Banned For Stupid Reasons
7. Slipknot vs. Sony
All of nu metal's history felt like it was building towards Slipknot. After bands like Limp Bizkit and Korn were taking the hip hop influenced beats into the world of metal, these 9 out of Iowa had taken it to its most bloody conclusion, donning horrifying masks and unleashing hell whenever they took to the stage. That may have sounded amazing for young metalheads...but it tends to be a different story for the label that manages you.
Though the Knot have been affiliated with Roadrunner Records for the better part of their career, they were originally supposed to ink a deal with Sony. That is, before they did a showcase out in Vegas. After being scouted by an A&R man, they figured that they would sign the contract when they got home and finish their run of dates while they still had the chance. In the process of playing though, a higher-up from Sony caught their performance and was absolutely horrified by what he saw.
By the time everyone got back to sign the contract, they could no longer sign it, with the higher-up supposedly saying "if this is the future of rock music, I don't want to be a part of it." Finding their true home with Roadrunner, Slipknot eventual success led to them repaying their detractor the only way they knew how: sending a pile of dead roses right to his office.
