10 Rock Bands That Got Banned For Stupid Reasons
6. Led Zeppelin in Singapore
Led Zeppelin have pretty much gotten to the point of musical royalty nowadays. When you've written songs as classic as Black Dog, Whole Lotta Love, and Stairway to Heaven, you go from just an average rock and roll band to the almighty kings of the genre in the span of a few years. However, that doesn't mean necessarily everyone has to go along with your agenda.
During the group's glory period, Zeppelin's travels brought them to Singapore for a gig, only to be denied entrance when passing through customs. When asked why they couldn't enter the country, the officials explained that there was a ban on long hair in the country as a response to the hippie culture that was spreading around the world. So what did Zeppelin do about it? Absolutely nothing.
Instead of rescheduling the dates, Zeppelin just refused to perform, opting to profit off of the already lucrative spots they already had booked. That wasn't even the last time it happened, with the Bee Gees cancelling dates around the same time for the exact same reason. If anything, it was a disservice to the youth of Singapore, who would've loved to see one of rock's greatest bands had their government not gotten involved. It just goes to show you that even at the dawn of the '70s rock, not even a country's government could get rockers to face the razor.
